Heather On Hiatus

Sharing my hiatuses to inspire you to make the most of yours

Expresso Lover’s Hiatus

When I first started to search out moments to relish in a hiatus, I would typically focus on evenings. You know that time of day you look forward to when all the errands have been run and if you’re lucky, your to-do list became shorter. That time of day when you can stop and take a deep breath! Well this is when I would make the time to do something for me, a break in the routine of the day. It could be a glass of wine enjoyed on our back porch or a walk with the dogs.

I now have a new perspective! Who says evenings are the only time we can treat ourselves? Recently, I spent a week on Ft Myers Beach with family as I have done for the past 40 years. So this week while I’m waking up on the beach, my goal is to incorporate some morning hiatuses into my life. There will still be plenty of evening breaks that I cherish but rather than wait until the end of the day, I will be putting effort into taking a morning hiatus. Now I understand that this is much easier since I’m on vacation. But if I can make a habit now then I can transition it into my regular routine. The actual activity can change. It’s the mindset that needs to trained to look for opportunities of peace earlier in the day.

Well I found just the hiatus I needed!  I have been savoring an ice cold glass of coffee right on the beach at the cutest coffee shop. And you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that their food is just as tasty as their coffee! If you are in the Fort Myers area, listen up! You must try MoJoe’s Coffee Café. You will fall in love with this place! It’s right on the beach and they have an adorable outside area with tables where you can relax and take in the surroundings! It was a mini escape and just what I needed!

I have a confession people! I am guilty of taking my caffeine straight up! I don’t bother with cream or sweeteners as I want to taste the coffee flavor! This place delivered just that with a little something they call a shaken espresso. Oh my, it’s the best! So simple, but so perfect! Two shots of espresso shaken with ice that causes a little, fluffy cloud of foam to rise.

Now their food is no less incredible! I am a sucker for an acai bowl! This one was the perfect size and covered with fresh fruits, shredded coconut and just a small drizzle of honey. As I sat outside, surrounded by beautiful flowers and hearing the sounds of the beach, I thought life is good!

Another confession, I have been here four times now! If you’re in the school of thought that breakfast must include eggs, MoJoe’s has you covered! I had a healthy yet filling omelet that goes by the name, The Cat’s Meow. It’s stuffed with turkey, corn, avocado, pico de gallo and swiss cheese. And it’s topped with a sriracha cream. It comes with either fresh fruit or hash browns. The idea of corn in an omelet doesn’t seem right to me but they were quick to offer to sub it out for something else, so in went spinach. People, it was amazingly yummy! I have been there twice this week just for that omelet!

Let me encourage you to take a morning hiatus. I am so glad I did. And I will be sure to do this more often. Even if you can’t make it to a coffee spot in the morning, slow down and enjoy your cup of coffee. Make the time to watch a sunrise while sipping your cup of coffee or playing your favorite music while savoring that morning dose of espresso. Taking ten minutes to indulge yourself will set you up for a positive day.
